On the Halo Mass Dependence of Transitional Temperature Gas

Recently, Dr. Kirill Tchernyshyov contributed this rather remarkable short video to the KITP workshop on Fundamentals of Gaseous Halos. It shows that the OVI content of gaseous atmospheres has a dependence on halo mass following a simple scaling relation: NOVISFRTvirRvir2N_{\rm OVI} \propto \frac{SFR}{T_{vir}R^{2}_{vir}}. This short contribution posits that such a simple scaling relation arises from what is ultimately a baryon conversion efficiency that scales with the halo cooling time and gravitational potential well.
